ABOUT US

The Nacogdoches Aero Modelers Club is an Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) chartered club and Society of Antique Modelers Chapter located in Nacogdoches, Texas. In November 2011 the A.L. Mangham Jr. Regional Airport was designated as our official club flying site. The A.L. Mangham Jr. Regional Airport (OCH) is located on the west side of Nacogdoches at 556 Terry Crawford Drive off State Highway 7 west.  Our "airstrip" is an abandoned paved taxi way 540 ft. long by 75 ft. wide.  A parallel grass landing strip is available for those preferring softer landings!

The club works closely with the Airport and Nacogdoches city management to increase awareness of the A. L. Mangham Regional Airport facilities and to promote interest in aeronautics through Radio Controlled airplane building and flying.  As part of the club agreement with the city a minimum of one annual public event will be scheduled at this flying field each year.  It is an airport open house fun fly open to all AMA pilots.  The most recent open house was July 26, 2015 and was a great success.  See the Club Events page for further information about upcoming events.

The Nacogdoches Aero Modelers Club is a members only organization chartered by AMA.  The club and the City of Nacogdoches, owner of the airport, entered into a contract which allows the club use and access to the airport facility.  The agreement requires anyone flying at the club site to be a member of both the club and AMA.
Licensed AMA pilots are allowed to fly as guests of club members, but a member must be present. Club members may fly anytime.  Novice pilots may fly as an introductory pilot with the assistance of a club instructor using a buddy box.

We welcome visitors to the field!  Restrooms for use by pilots and guests are available in the Pilots' Lounge. The Club's regularly scheduled flying times are 1:30 p.m. to about thirty minutes before sunset on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  During hot summer days the hours are usually changed to early morning.  It is best to contact a club officer or member to get current flying times in the event weather or airport conditions require a change.  Visitors must check in with Airport management at the front office, or preferrably contact a club member to make arrangements for entry and to have a club member present.
